9 DAYS AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE
DISTRIBUTING FOOD, VOUCHER CARDS AND CASH ASSISTANCE
In Gaziantep, we are distributing food, clothing, and hygiene products, and voucher cards to the victims of Monday’s earthquake. We are visiting poor neighborhoods and prepare a needs analysis. We share the need analysis with local authorities at intervals. We are distributing blankets, clothing, and financial assistance to local partners that we work in cooperation such as local representatives and NGOs. Our team of employees and volunteers are protecting the most vulnerable groups (Roma, Dom, and Abdal) of people against armed conflict in the region for many years. Now, those same employees and volunteers have immediately started working on mitigating the effects of the horrific earthquake.
On the fifth day following a devastating earthquake which affected more than 15 million people and left more than 35,000 dead, Kırkayak Kültür’s efforts to help refugees and citizens continue unabated. In the freezing cold, many people are still sleeping in cars, on the streets or in makeshift shelters.
Currently, we are working on helping those who have lost their shelter due to the earthquake. Our team has distributed voucher cards and winter clothing to children and adults in Gaziantep. We have started to distribute voucher cards to around 750 households. Each family receives 1000 TL to buy basic food items and hygiene products. For the most affected families, we are starting to distribute hot meals in Kırkayak Kültür Kitchen Program in Gaziantep, where Syrian and Turkish women cook together and our plan is to deliver 400 meals a day.
