History of Kırkayak Kültür
Kirkayak Kultur was established in 2011 by some academics, artists and activists in Gaziantep. Kırkayak Kültür aims to service for social development by making sure that these concepts are comprehended and well perceived, to promote democratic values, to create the conditions of a life that is rich with culture.
Kırkayak Kültür works with disadvantaged groups, refugees and migrants in order to contribute to social cohesion and culture of coexistence. Kirkayak’s actions are designed to increase social development, to promote democratic values and to create the conditions of a culturally rich life. While following this mission,
Kırkayak Kültür aims to improve and extend the cooperation between the artists, culture-arts activists and non-governmental organizations in Turkey, the Middle East and Europe.
Kırkayak Kültür’s programs are in the fields of Culture & Arts, Zeugma Film Festival, Mutfak || Matbakh Workshop, Migration Studies and Dom Studies with a social development-oriented, participatory and multi-voice approach.
A vital component of Gaziantep’s cultural and intellectual life, Kırkayak Kültür hosts its actions in two separate locations in Gaziantep: “Kırkayak Kültür – Art Center” and “Kırkayak Kültür – Center for Migration and Cultural Studies”.
Kırkayak believes that sharing art and cultural space increases mutual understanding and sensitivities and helps to overcome cultural differences and prejudices.
Kırkayak Kültür takes place in international platforms, being aware that migration has both local and international effects.
Kırkayak Kültür is also a member of CCRM (Cross-Regional Center for Refugees and Migrants Network), European Network on Statelessness, and Solidarity Network for Human Rights Defenders.

Kırkayak Kültür; to perform social, cultural and art activities by performing integration studies within the framework of dialogue and cooperation so that the socially and culturally risked and disadvantaged societies can develop in social and cultural aspects and against the prejudices and discriminations regarding these societies,

Kırkayak Kültür; organizes social, cultural and art activities to help empowering of socially and culturally disadvantageous groups at risk, and to integrate society in a dialogue and solidarity to end prejudices and discrimination against these groups. Besides, Kırkayak Kültür carries out social, cultural and art activities; studies on humanitarian issues caused by political and social circumstances in Middle East in addition to existing issues as immigration, being a refugee, disadvantaged groups and cultures, also findings are presented to people nationwide and worldwide.
